Youth Development Program

Contact nbcayouthdirector@gmail.com with any questions.

The Youth Development Program provides programs for the U15 age group. It is divided into 3 age categories U9, U12 and U15.  The program is delivered by the Youth Development Committee under the direction of the Youth Director. These programs are developmental based with emphasis on development and fun and not on competition.

U18 and U20 programs are under the direction of the Competition Committee, although the Youth Committee will be responsible for U18 and U20 events that do not lead to a National.

Canada Winter Games is under the direction of the Canada Winter Games Coordinator.

Below are programs, services and information provided by the Youth Development Committee.

Support to Club Programs

Clubs deliver Youth programs usually weekly some bi-weekly under the director of a club coordinator. The Youth Development Program can provide support for starting and operating these programs in conjunction with the NB Curing Technical Director. These programs are typically structured as follows:

  • Little Rocks (U9/U12): U9 play half sheets and use lighter rocks. U12 play full sheet and use lighter rocks. Some events have a granite division (full sized rocks) for U12 that is optional based on experience and ability of the athletes.
  • Juniors (U15): Use full sized rocks.

The Youth Development Committee provides support to Clubs and Club Coordinators to deliver instructional programs in accordance with Curl Canada development programs.

Programs are developed in accordance with the Long Term Athletic Development Program for Curling.

The Youth Committee will schedule an Open Qualifier each season to qualify athletes to attend an Atlantic Regional event. Scoring is maintained in the Curl Canada Skills App (download to your mobile or tablet device. See NEW Skills App from Curling Canada – New Brunswick Curling Association for more on the Skills App). The App has ability to score numerous practice sessions so Athletes can practice the shots before going to the Qualifier.
