Sport & Rec Branch Reacts to Winter Action Plan

Good afternoon,

As announced last Friday, the Province will now be operating under 3 level phases under the Winter Action Plan. At this time, we are still trying to confirm details on the restrictions these levels may have on the sport and recreation sector. We hope to share a document with information for all 3 phases by next week. For now we know that organized sport and recreation activities can continue as they were prior to this announcement provided they have an operational plan. That said, the province is seeing significant outbreaks in several regions and many of these are in the U19 age category.

In addition to the other protective layers that are in place (vaccination, masks, cleaning/disinfection, screening, rapid tests, etc) we once again ask sport and recreation organizations to:

  • identify where out of region activity is necessary and where it can be avoided
  • understand that larger events and/or events requiring overnight stays carry additional risks; organizations should consider:
    • creating schedules that limit congregations at entrances/exits and avoid unnecessary social activities unrelated to the actual sport
    • remind their members the importance of responsible conduct inside and outside of the sport events (limiting social gatherings in hotels, etc)

Thank you for your cooperation and stay safe,

The Sport and Recreation Branch
